Scouts Troop 1 Hong Kong Uniform Guide

Please read the following Scouts BSA Hong Kong Troop 1 Uniform Guide

Scout uniforms are an important part of the Boy Scouts of America program and one of the methods of scouting. Each scout gets to be part of a group demonstrated by their uniform and each group has a personal sense of identity. The scout uniform is also a way to display our scout's individual accomplishments and recognitions. We wear the uniform to associate ourselves with the principles to which we are committed - character development, citizenship training, and physical and mental fitness. The uniform is not intended to hide our individuality, but it is a way we give each other strength and support.

The Scouting movement is built on positive values. As we wear the uniform, we stand together and encourage each other to live by those principles. Scouts and adult leaders alike should take pride in belonging to this program and demonstrate it by wearing the uniform correctly.

As we travel, the scouts uniform projects an image and association of pride and respect with the individual wearing it. Remember, when you wear your uniform, you represent Scouts BSA.

The Scout uniform types are the Class A and Class B. The official dress uniform is commonly referred to as 'Class A' and the activity uniform as 'Class B', even though these are not the correct BSA terms. BSA Scouts uniforms should ONLY be worn during activities and events which further the Aims and Methods of Scouts BSA.

Merit Badge Sash

The Merit Badge Sash is not a part of the uniform itself, but it is worn over the uniform during our Court of Honor ceremonies. The Merit Badges should be sewn on the front of the sash as they are earned in neat, even rows of three. Other patches can be sewn on the back of the sash, as long as they are not previously held Badges of Rank or Badges of Office. The image here is not typical by any means. Most scouts have one merit badge sash with just a few.

How to wear the merit badge sash: There's only one right place for a merit badge sash and that is over the right shoulder. It can be worn over or under the epaulet (shoulder loop). Keep in mind “a merit badge sash is never worn on the belt,” according to the Guide.

Class B Uniform

The Class B Uniform is known as an activity uniform. It includes the following items:

  1. A Troop or other Boy Scout T-Shirt

  2. Scout pants or shorts

  3. Socks

  4. Closed toe shoes

  5. Optional scouting cap

Even though this uniform is not as official looking as the Class A uniform, it still is required to be worn clean, pressed and worn with pride.
